Islamabad, May 1 (Inditop.com) A former ISI official taken hostage with two others, including a journalist, by terrorists in Pakistan’s troubled North Waziristan region over a month ago has been killed, officials said.
Local officials confirmed the death of Khalid Khawaja, Squadron Leader (retd) of the spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
He was found shot in the chest and head. The body was recovered in Miran Shah near a road with a tag of ‘Asian Tigers’, a little-known terrorist outfit, Online news agency reported.
A note found at the spot accused Khawaja of spying for the US and blamed him for the 2007 military operation to flush out Islamists from the Lal Masjid in Islamabad.
Khwaja, along with another former ISI officer and journalist Asad Qureshi, went missing from North Waziristan March 26 after they had gone to work on a documentary on the Taliban.
In April, the ‘Asian Tigers’ had aired a videotape of the three hostages and demanded the release of their arrested comrades in exchange.
