Brasilia, May 8 (Inditop.com) The UN World Food Programme will confer the “Chamion in the Battle Against Hunger” award to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for his efforts in fighting hunger in Latin America.

Lula was chosen because he prioritised the fight against hunger in his two terms of presidency, the UN said.

The award will be given to Lula next week by WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran, who will see the progress of projects being run under the Brazilian government’s “Fome Zero” (Zero Hunger) programme in Brasilia and other cities, Xinhua reported.

Sheeran praised the “active role” played by Lula’s government in anti-hunger efforts in Brazil and other countries.
