Chandigarh, May 8 (Inditop.com) A special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here Saturday awarded two years of rigorous imprisonment to a former superintendent engineer, held guilty in a corruption case.

CBI Special Judge Darshan Singh also slapped a fine of Rs.15,000 on V.P. Dhingra, who worked with the electricity department. However, he was immediately granted bail after furnishing a bail bond of Rs.50,000.

According to CBI officials, Dhingra was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs.20,000 outside his residence here in Sector 19 in August 2006.

“We laid a trap after getting a complaint from Subhash Bajaj, managing director of Mohali-based Kanta Electricals India Limited. Dhingra had asked for the money in lieu of approving a contract and passing a specific machinery of the complainant,” a CBI official said.

Dhingra’s lawyer said they would appeal against the court’s verdict in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
