New Delhi, May 11 (Inditop.com) A three-member Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) committee will visit the Manipur capital Imphal this week to report on the situation following the economic blockade enforced by Naga groups.
The committee, appointed by BJP president Nitin Gadkari, comprises Prakash Javadekar, Tarun Vijay and party MP Bijoya Chakravarty.
A BJP statement said the committee will discuss the situation with civil society activists, party workers and police and government officials. The delegation will return May 14 and give its report to Gadkari.
The delegation will also meet Home Minister P. Chidambaram before submitting its report.
“The permission given by central government to Naga leader Thuingaleng Muivah to visit his hometown in Manipur has already resulted in two deaths and a bandh (strike). Corruption of Ibobi (Singh) government has crossed all limits. Misuse of security forces resulting in extortion and fake encounters has infuriated people in Manipur,” the BJP said.
It added that many militant outfits were training their cadres and taking shelter in Bangladesh.
The party said some outfits had given notice to all non-Manipuri people to leave the state by May 31. Unless the government acts decisively, the situation would spill out of hand, the statement added.
Naga tribal groups have enforced an indefinite economic blockade for the past one week against the Manipur government’s decision not to allow separatist Muivah to visit his birthplace in a Manipuri village.
