Lucknow, May 18 (Inditop.com) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is to hold a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district and is likely to speak on the exploitation of tribals and illegal stone quarrying allegedly by leaders of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), a Congress activist said.
The Amethi MP proposes to focus on the economic and physical exploitation of tribals living in that belt and also highlight how such deprivation has led them to fall easy prey to Maoists there.
The rally is due to be held Tuesday evening.
“Gandhi will point out how illegal mining and stone quarrying are patronized by BSP leaders who supply pink stone from this region for Chief Minister Mayawati’s dream memorial projects,” state Congress RTI cell chief Shailendra Singh told reporters in Mirzapur.
Singh said there was evidence to prove that money had been pilfered from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme by local officials.
