Agra, May 18 (Inditop.com) The litterateurs of this Taj city Tuesday lauded the contribution of Surdas, the blind bard of Braj Bhasha, on his 537th birth anniversary.

Mayor Anjula Singh Mahaur garlanded the statue of the poet at the Soor Sadan auditorium in the Municipal Corporation campus.

At Soor Kuti along the river Yamuna where Surdas met Ballabhacharya of the Vaishnavite sect, a special programme of recital of his poems (Padavali) was held, presided over by educationist Ram Avtar Sharma.

The Surdas Memorial at the Keitham Lake on Delhi-Agra road has a library and a school for the blind. The picturesque memorial in the heart of a dense green forest along the river is a tourist spot.

Surdas, one of the major poets of the Vaishnavite tradition and Bhakti Ras, sang of the childhood pranks of lord Krishna.
