Guwahati, May 19 (Inditop.com) Two students were killed and two others had a miraculous escape Wednesday after they fell into a ditch in Assam’s Sivasagar town while returning home from school, police said.
A police spokesperson said the incident took place in the heart of Sivasagar town, 350 km east of Assam’s main city of Guwahati, where roads have been flooded following heavy rains.
“Four kids in the age group of five to eight years were returning home when they fell into a roadside ditch. Two of them were rescued,” a police official said.
The main road was water-logged due to heavy rains and the children stepped into the ditch thinking it was part of the road they were wading through.
The two children killed were six years old.
“Locals in the area swung into action and rescued two of them who were literally gasping for breath after falling into the deep ditch,” the official said. The other two could not be saved, he added.
