New Delhi, May 25 (IANS) Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will Friday address the joint session of the Bhutanese parliament, an official statement said here Tuesday.

‘Meira Kumar, who is leading a high-level Indian parliamentary delegation to Bhutan, is the first speaker of the Lok Sabha to address the joint session of the Bhutanese parliament,’ a Lok Sabha Secretariat statement said.

The delegation will leave for Bhutan Wednesday.

The delegation includes Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, house members Girija Vyas, Mirza Mehboob Beg and Vishwa Mohan Kumar, Rajya Sabha members Pyarimohan Mohapatra and Ranjitsinh V. Mohite-Patil besides senior parliament officials.

They will meet Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Prime Minister Jigme Thinley, National Assembly Speaker Tshogton Jigme Tshultim, the leader of the opposition and other senior leaders.

The delegation ‘will have wide-ranging discussions on issues of international and bilateral importance’ with the Bhutanese leaders, the statement said.
