Chennai, June 1 (IANS) India’s second largest car manufacturer Hyundai Motor India’s total sales in May increased 7.3 percent though its exports logged a slight dip.

The company sold 46,808 units (domestic 27,151 units, exports 19,657 units) last month as against 43,624 units (domestic 23,503 units, exports 20,121 units) sold in May 2009.

‘We were constrained by our planned annual maintenance shutdown which restricted our numbers. We had to divert our export production to meet the domestic demand,’ Director (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said.

According to him, the demand for i20 has shot up by around 35 percent after the launch of the new model and addition of two trims.

The segment-wise cumulative sales for last moth are as follows: A2 segment (Santro, i10, Getz and i20) 42,460 units; A3 Segment (Accent, Verna) 4,310 units; A4 Segment (Elantra) 1 unit; A5 segment (Sonata Transform) 37 units; and sports utility vehicle segment (Tucson) 0 unit.
