New Delhi, June 4 (IANS) A 56-year-old man was killed when a pillar fell on him at the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee office here, police said Friday.

Shambhu Nayak, a resident of Pune, was visiting the office on Jai Singh Road here around 8.30 p.m. Thursday when the incident took place, a police officer said.

‘A stage was being erected for an event Friday. Suddenly a pillar fell on him and he got critically injured. He was taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,’ the officer said.

The organising committee has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

‘We will find out what led to the incident and will work out a compensation package for the deceased,’ said Lalit Bhanot, secretary general of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.
