Agra, June 5 (IANS) Three people were killed Saturday after a wall collapsed on them due to strong winds in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district, police said.
The victims were identified as Kundan Singh, 40, Udai Singh 35, and Sunil, 16. Sunil is a student and the other two are daily wage workers, police said.
Two other people injured in the incident were admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Etmadpur Dheerendra Sachan has announced compensation of Rs.20 lakh for the families of the dead and Rs.50,000 for the families of the injured.
Etmauddaula police said the wall, being constructed on a plot behind a temple between Nawalganj and Hanuman Nagar, collapsed due to strong winds early Saturday while the victim’s were answering nature’s call.
People of Dalit neighbourhoods defecate in the open in this area as there are no public toilets. The lone community toilet in the area remains locked, an area resident said.
