Ghaziabad, June 6 (IANS) A man died after he was stabbed in a scuffle over water in Ghaziabad, police said Sunday.

The incident occurred when his daughter went to fetch water from a hand pump situated in the neighbourhood in Sangam Vihar Colony.

‘The girl went around 10 p.m. Saturday to draw water from the hand pump located outside another house in the neighbourhood. When she started drawing water, the owners of house objected to it,’ Superintendent of Police (City) Avdesh Kumar Vijeta said.

‘The two boys – Sonu and Monu – who resided in the house did not allow the girl to take water. They claimed that as it was located in front of their house, they owned it. They also alleged that while drawing water from the hand pump, she and her family spilled water outside their house, leading to filth,’ he said.

‘When the girl resisted, the boys entered into an argument with her and passed some remarks against her. She went home and narrated the matter to her parents. Enraged over this insult, the girl’s parents came to the boys’ house to take up the matter with their parents,’ Vijeta said.

‘The two sides had an heated argument. The matter led to scuffle. During the altercation, Sonu and Monu took out a knife and stabbed the girl’s father Nand Kishore, 55. They stabbed him several times,’ he added.

Nand Kishore, who was bleeding heavily, was taken to the G.T.B. Hospital but succumbed to his injuries while on way, Vijeta said.

He said a case of murder has been registered at Loni police station and the two brothers and their father Rajendra have been arrested.
