Dubai, June 26 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated $2 million to Unesco’s ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’ programme, as part of global efforts to help developing countries preserve their culture.
An agreement in this regard was signed by Unesco and the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).
‘This agreement will certainly contribute to strengthen developing and poor countries, particularly in Africa, to improve the way they deal with their respective intangible heritage and to develop their national capabilities in that field,’ said Abdullah Musaba Al Nuaimi, the UAE’s permanent representative at Unesco.
Irina Bokova, the Unesco director-general, praised UAE’s contribution.
‘The UAE is in the forefront of countries that seek to safeguard intangible cultural heritage. Today’s agreement would help us provide support to the developing countries which do not have enough financial or human resources to do so,’ Bokova said.
