Kolkata, June 26 (IANS) The West Bengal unit of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Saturday started a two-day meet to identify lapses that led to the Left Front’s defeat in the recent civic polls.
‘We need to have a detail analysis within the party to point out the organisational and political lapses that led to our defeat in the civic pools. We also need to mobilise the masses for the implementation of pro-poor and pro-working class policies of the state government,’ said a statement issued by the CPI-M state committee.
The CPI-M-led Left Front has faced severe poll setbacks at the hands of opposition Trinamool Congress in last few elections.
‘In spite of proper implementation of development policies and several pro-people projects in civic areas Left Front had to face defeat. We need to find out the reasons behind it,’ said the statement.
The Trinamool Congress has wrested most of the civic bodies along with Kolkata Municipal Corporation in the recent civic elections. The Trinamool seems to be poised to seriously challenge the Left Front’s 33-year rule in the state in the assembly polls next year.
‘There are victory and defeat in elections, but ignoring the results we must carry forward with our development programmes involving the masses,’ said the statement.
The state secretariat has asked its state committee members to find out the reasons that led to the poll-debacles and make suggestions for improving relation with the masses and regain the party’s support base.
The CPI-M had to bite the dust in last year’s general elections when its tally in West Bengal came down to 15 from 35.
