Beirut, June 27 (DPA) Lines of cars flying German flags filled Beirut’s streets as fans celebrated Germany’s 4-1 rout of England in the World Cup football Sunday.

Traffic came to a standstill as Lebanese fanned into the streets, some dressed in German t-shirts. Others let off fireworks after the match ended.

Motorcycles trailing Germany’s flags also cruised Beirut’s downtown area as crowds clapped and chanted ‘Germany won.’

The German team, one of the favourites in the World Cup, will now play either Argentina or Mexico in a quarter-final match in Cape Town Saturday.
