New Delhi, June 30 (IANS) Home Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday said talks with his Pakistani counterpart Rehman Malik were ‘substantive’ on security-related matters.
‘Substantive discussions on security-related matters and on post-26/11 were held between me and Interior Minister (Rehman Malik),’ Chidambaram told reporters here.
‘I visited Islamabad from June 25 to 26. In the conference, matters pertaining to narcotics, terrorism, police cooperation and training and trafficking of women and children were discussed.’
Chidambaram, the first Indian home minister to visit Pakistan in three decades, held talks with Malik in Islamabad June 25 on the sidelines of the SAARC Home Ministers Meeting here.
Chidambaram, who was presenting his ministry’s monthly report, said he also paid a courtesy call to Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi during his two-day visit.
‘I would wait for the outcome of my meeting with the Interior Minister on Hafiz Saeed (Jamat-ud-Dawa chief) and on other issues raised with him when we met both privately and (at the) delegation level,’ he said.
India wants Saeed, the mastermind of the Nov 26, 2008 attacks, which left 166 people dead and 244 injured, to be tried in Pakistan.
