New Delhi, May 1 (Inditop) The Supreme Court Friday extended the parole of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Lok Sabha candidate Varun Gandhi till May 14, the day after balloting concludes in the five-phase general elections.
A bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justices P. Sathasivam and J.M. Panchal was hearing a lawsuit by the BJP’s candidate in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, challenging the invocation of the National Security Act (NSA) against him.
Varun Gandhi was charged under NSA by the Uttar Pradesh government and arrested March 28 for reportedly making communally-inflaming remarks. The Supreme Court had released him on two weeks parole till May 1 after he gave an undertaking that he would not deliver hate speeches.
