Shanghai, July 13 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia and China will jointly design and manufacture a new heavy-lift helicopter, a Russian deputy industry minister said Tuesday.
Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said the helicopter could be based on the Russian Mi-26 and the two sides are currently discussing the new machine’s specifications taking into account the China’s domestic needs.
‘This machine will be oriented toward the Chinese market and the project will be commercial,’ he said.
The Mi-26 Halo, a heavy transport helicopter with civilian and military applications, is the largest and most powerful helicopter ever to have gone into production.
