New Delhi, July 17 (IANS) High humidity coupled with above-average maximum temperature forced Delhiites sweat it out Saturday. The weatherman said a light drizzle was reported in some parts of the capital but it brought scarce relief from the sweltering heat.

According to an official of the India Meteorological Department, the mercury Sunday will hover around a high and low of 38 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees, respectively.

‘There will be a cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain/thundershowers, accompanied with squall in some areas towards afternoon or evening,’ the official said.

On Saturday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum was recorded at 29.2 degrees Celsius. Both were two notches above the average for this time of the season, the weatherman said.

The humidity in the capital, which touched a high of 89 percent and a low of 58 percent, made Delhi sweat.

Dark clouds could be seen over most parts of Delhi for a major part of the day but they brought little succour. In some areas, traces of rainfall were reported around 8 a.m., an official said.

The city has so far received 176.4 mm rain this monsoon – 91 percent more than the average.
