Kottayam (Kerala), Aug 1 (IANS) Chief editor of Malayala Manorama K.M. Mathew died early Sunday at his residence here in Kerala. He was 93.
Mathew is survived by three sons and a daughter.
An active person throughout his life, Mathew was till a few days back taking part in the running of the acclaimed newspaper.
Mathew’s body would be kept for the public to pay their last respects from Sunday evening at his residence in Kottayam.
The funeral would take place at 4 p.m. Monday near here and leading personalities from all sections of the society are expected to attend the ceremony.
‘Mathew was the doyen of the media industry and a great human being,’ said M.P. Veerendra Kumar, chairman of Mathrubhumi newspaper – a competitor of Malayala Manorama in Kerala.
Oommen Chandy, leader of opposition in Kerala, remembered Mathew as a man known for his simplicity and humility.
‘I have known him (Mathew) for more than five decades. His service to the society will always be remembered,’ he said.
Noted author M.T. Vasudevan Nair said: ‘The way in which Mathew carried himself in a humble manner despite being the giant in the media industry will always be remembered.’
