New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS) Sports Minister M.S. Gill Tuesday said the government will seriously deal with any charges of irregularity related to the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
‘The ministry has been very clear in the last two years that any complaint of any kind will be dealt with promptly and taken up with the appropriate authority,’ he said.
‘If anything comes up in future it will also be looked into. The end of Games is not the end of the show. I can assure you that the government is serious in this matter,’ Gill said when asked about the irregularities that have surfaced in Commonwealth Games projects.
Gill said the sports ministry is looking into all issues.
Asked about the poor construction in the stadiums, Gill said: ‘You bring up minor flaws in heavy rain but look at the total picture in all fairness to the country and to us.’
Gill said the organising committee has started taking over the venues.
‘The SAI and CPWD will be there to assist the OC stadium managers,’ he said.
The sports ministry has already shot off a letter to the organising committee.
In a letter to Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, sports secretary Sindhushree Khullar has asked for the removal of T.S. Darbari (OC joint Director General) and Sanjay Mahendroo (OC Deputy Director General) after their names cropped up in the investigations related to financial irregularities during the Queen’s Baton Relay inauguration.
