New Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS) A city court Tuesday awarded varying jail terms to three people after holding them guilty of receiving over 48 kg of ganja (marijuana), sent from West Bengal.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Sanjiv Jain sentenced Mohammad Shahid and Abdul Malik to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh on each under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The third convict Mohammad Aslam was sentenced to eight years in jail, along with a fine of Rs.75,000.

‘The convicts are involved in trafficking of huge quantity of contraband ganja. The effect of consumption of ganja on the society is disastrous. It eats away the life and vigour in the society,’ Jain added, rejecting their plea for leniency.
