New Delhi, Aug 11 (IANS) The Delhi government Wednesday announced launching of an anti-defacement drive to clean the city of posters, banners and wall writing before the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
Delhi Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia instructed the civic authority and the police to strictly enforce the provisions of the Delhi Defacement Act which envisages stringent action including hefty fine and imprisonment for defacement of public property.
‘The enforcement agencies should ensure that no poster, banner and wall writing is visible in the capital. We need to present Delhi as a world class capital city,’ he said.
Walia appealed to the denizens to render their active cooperation and not indulge in sticking posters and banners during the ensuing festival season.
