Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 12 (IANS) Seven teenaged girls, four hailing from Nepal, were rescued from a red light area in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district Thursday, police said.

Two youth allegedly involved in the trafficking of the girls have been detained.

The girls, who are in the age group of 13-16 years, were rescued from the Delhi Gate area of the city, some 400 km from Lucknow.

‘Preliminary investigations indicate the girls were trafficked for the flesh trade. While four girls are from Nepal, the other three are natives of Uttar Pradesh,’ police inspector Harish Kumar told reporters.

‘Those involved in the trafficking racket had brought the girls on the pretext of providing them high-income jobs in Meerut,’ he added.

The youths are being interrogated to gather vital clues about other active members of the trafficking racket, police said.
