New Delhi, Aug 13 (IANS) The Trinamool Congress Friday denied reports that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had written to party chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee over her remarks on Maoist leader Azad’s killing during her rally in West Bengal’s Lalgarh Monday.
‘It is a figment of imagination. Somebody writing a letter…I am not aware of it,’ Trinamool Congress leader Dinesh Trivedi said in response to questions over reports on some TV channels that Mukherjee had written to Banerjee over her remarks at the rally.
Trivedi, who is the minister of state for health, said that the party had raised in parliament the issue of an attempt on Banerjee’s life.
He said there was ‘a definite attempt’ on the Trinamool chief’s life as a truck had entered her convoy on the way to the Lalgarh rally. He said Banerjee was unwell and had been advised rest.
Asked about Mukherjee’s response in the Lok Sabha on Bannerjee’s controversial remarks at the rally, Trivedi said the finance minister had talked about ascertaining facts.
At the Lalgarh rally, Banerjee slammed the killing of Maoist spokesperson Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad in a shootout in Andhra Pradesh July 2, suggesting it was a staged shootout.
The Left has accused Banerjee of ‘political collaboration’ with Maoists at the Lalgarh rally.
