Kolkata, May 4 (Inditop) Asserting that there existed a lack of coordination among various security agencies in combating terrorism, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Monday called for an alternative policy direction to fight the menace.
Addressing a ‘Meet the press’ at the Kolkata Press Club, CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury said only a non-Congress and non-BJP regime at the centre could formulate an alternative policy direction on the issue.
“An alternative policy direction is needed and that is possible only through a non-Congress and non-BJP political formation and it is this formation we want after the elections,” Yechury said.
He said the Congress had drafted the Federal Investigation Agency Bill after the Mumbai attacks, while the BJP had formulated the POTA.
“But there is no thinking on the part of these two parties on how to prevent such terror activities”.
Dwelling on the reasons for terrorists managing to strike in the country, Yechury said: “There are various levels…But there is a lack of coordination between the security agencies. It needs to be addressed and there should be modernisation”.
