Hyderabad, May 4 (Inditop) The health authorities in Andhra Pradesh are waiting for the test results of two people suspected to have symptoms of swine flu while two others were declared negative for the dreaded virus.
Two people were Sunday admitted to the Government General and Chest Hospital, the nodal centre to deal with flu cases here.
They have been kept in isolation and their salvia and blood samples were sent to National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) in Delhi.
“The samples were sent immediately after they were brought to the hospital. We are waiting for the results,” Sudha Ramna, director of medical education, told Inditop.
She said while one person was brought from the airport immediately after he landed from Germany, the other, who arrived in the city a few days ago, came to the hospital on his own.
Both patients have been quarantined.
A 26-year-old techie, who landed from Germany, was found to have cold, fever, cough and other symptoms of swine flu during the screening at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here Sunday.
A middle-aged person, who came to Hyderabad from Canada April 26, turned up at the hospital Sunday and wanted to undergo the tests for the dreaded flu as he was having visible symptoms. He was also admitted while his family members were counseled not to venture out till further advise.
The two fresh cases were reported while a 28-year-old man who arrived here Saturday, from San Francisco via Dubai, was tested negative for the virus. He was discharged from the hospital after NICD sent the test reports.
He was the first suspected swine flu case to be admitted to the hospital.
Earlier, a 26-year-old man who arrived from Texas was also found to have symptoms of the flu. He, however, had refused to get the treatment at hospital and was confined to his house. His samples were also tested negative.
The official said on an average 2,000 passengers arriving from abroad, especially countries affected by swine flu, were being screened at the airport. A team of doctors deployed at the airport has screened 9,255 passengers since April 30.
