New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) Rains in several parts of the capital Sunday evening made for a pleasant Independence Day. The morning, however, was uncomfortably sticky with dignitaries and others at the Red Fort furiously fanning themselves during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s address to the nation.

The maximum temperature Sunday settled at 34.4 degrees Celsius, average for this time of the season, and the minimum was 25.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below average.

The city in the 24 hours till 8.30 a.m. received 62 mm of rain. From 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., 10.6 mm of rain was recorded, a Met official said.

The humidity levels oscillated between a high of 95 percent and a low of 69 percent, the official said.

The Met department said that there will be cloudy sky Monday and rains or thundershowers may occur in some areas.

‘While the maximum temperature will rise a little to settle at 35 degrees Celsius, the minimum will be around 26 degrees Celsius,’ an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

Delhi has so far recorded rainfall of 455.5 mm, nearly nine percent more than the average, the official said.
