Suzhou (China), Aug 20 (IANS) India’s challenge ended at the China Open Table Tennis Friday with Sharat Kamal losing his doubles pre-quarterfinal match.
Sharath and his Swedish partner Par Gerell lost to the German pair of Patrick Baum and Bastian Steger 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-13, 5-11. Sharath had a new partner in Gerell as his usual partner compatriot Subhajit Saha could not play due to injury.
The Indian-Swede pair was very much in contention when the match was tied at 2-2. But they could not match the pace of the Germans and lost the next two games.
Sharath, a world number 39, lost his first round singles match Thursday to his doubles partner Gerell.
The team will now travel to Zhengding for a month-long training camp ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
