Chandigarh, Aug 21 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday asked the central government to immediately issue directions to the Jammu and Kashmir government to ensure the safety of Sikhs in the Valley, who had got anonymous threats to embrace Islam or face dire consequences.

‘Such incidents are totally intolerable in our country. People from all minority communities should feel utmost safe and secure in every state of the country. We all are standing besides the Sikhs living in Jammu and Kashmir, and would not allow anybody to infringe into their rights and harmony,’ party general secretary Jagat Parkash Nadda told reporters here.

‘The central government should immediately issue directions for the state government to take appropriate action so that no Sikh of the valley feels afraid. This is their own country and they are free to live in any state at their own will,’ he added.

BJP is observing Saturday as ‘Kashmir Bachao Divas’ all across the country.

On the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Nadda said: ‘Law and order situation has deteriorated and the situation has become explosive. Both state and central governments are acting soft towards the miscreants, which is directly encouraging them. Due to this, our security forces are also feeling demoralised.’
