Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 24 (IANS) Counsel for Abdul Nasir Maudany has termed as ‘baseless’ a Karnataka minister’s statement that the jailed People’s Democratic Party leader has confessed to his involvement in the Chinnaswamy Stadium bomb blast in April ahead of an IPL match.

Counsel Ali Akbar said the statement of Karnataka Home Minister V.S. Acharya was baseless and the minister ‘is trying to make political capital through such statements’.

Akbar’s reaction came soon after Acharya said the investigators had got vital links nailing Maudany to the April 17 stadium blast and that the PDP leader has also admitted to it during his ongoing interrogation.

‘This is baseless and devoid of facts, because so far Maudany has been questioned only for a few hours. No detailed questioning has taken place,’ said Akbar.

Maudany was arrested last Tuesday for his alleged involvement in the 2008 Bangalore bombings and taken to Bangalore by the Karnataka police.

He was also taken to Coorg, where police say, the conspiracy was hatched and in which Maudany also physically took part.

The judicial custody of Maudany ends Thursday. It remains to be seen if his judicial custody would be extended in the light of the fresh revelations.
