Tehran, Aug 24 (DPA) Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was planning to visit Pakistan to see for himself the damage wrought by the floods, and to ensure Iranian aid was as effective as possible, state television reported Tuesday.
There was no fixed date yet for the visit, the report said.
The Iranian Red Crescent has already dispatched several consignments of aid to the flood-hit areas and said it plans to send more for as long as necessary.
Iranian television also made another appeal for donations.
The floods that started July 28 with heavy monsoon rains have submerged thousands of villages, washed away hundreds of kilometres of roads, dozens of bridges and other key infrastructure, inflicting heavy economic losses on an already poor country.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has warned that the country would need at least three years to recover from the floods that have devastated large areas and affected millions of people.
