Shimla, Aug 26 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh is likely to receive moderate to mild rainfall in the next three days, the weather office here said Thursday, a day after heavy rains lashed various parts of the state.

‘After witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall in the past few days, the monsoon is likely to remain in dormancy in the state till Aug 28,’ Manmohan Singh, the director of the meteorological office here, told IANS.

He said there will be moderate rain on Thursday and mild spells on Friday and Saturday.

Continuous rainfall in the hill state for the past few days abnormally increased the water level in the major rivers of the hill state – the Satluj, Beas and Yamuna – which enter the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana.

The moderate to mild rainfall in Himachal is likely to come as a relief for Punjab and Haryana, parts of which have been affected by floods, an official said.

The heavy rainfall in the hill state had triggered flood-like situation in Punjab and Haryana.

Many low-lying areas of Punjab remained on high alert as the Satluj flowed near the danger mark. Similarly, a fresh breach emerged in the Yamuna in Haryana’s Karnal district, flooding acres of agricultural land.
