New Delhi, Aug 29 (IANS) Tata Steel Ltd was honoured with the ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar’ for the second consecutive year at the National Sports Awards Day here Saturday.
In a glittering ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, President Pratibha Patil gave away the award to H.M.Nerurkar, Managing Director, Tata Steel Ltd, and Raghunath Pandey, President of Tata Workers’ Union.
Satish Pillai, Chief, Corporate Sustainability Services, Tata Steel and a former athlete, was conferred the prestigious ‘Dhyanchand award for Life Time Achievement in Sports and Games’.
Nerurkar said Tata Steel was honoured to receive the prestigious award for the second consecutive year. He said the award conferred on Tata Steel will help them to continue to serve the cause of sports and sportspersons in the country.
‘In keeping with our philosophy of improving the quality of life of the communities we serve, Tata Steel always has, and shall continue to support, nurture and promote sporting talent in the country, especially those among the rural population and tribal communities, where a huge pool of latent talent exists,’ said Nerurkar.
Last year, Tata Steel received the award in two categories, ‘Community Sports Identification and Nurturing of Budding Young Talent’ and ‘Establishment and Management of Sports Academies of Excellence’.
