Moscow, May 5 (Inditop) Russia has proposed to set up a global court to deal with piracy cases, a media report said Tuesday.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Monday urged Prosecutor General Yury Chaika to discuss the matter with his foreign colleagues.
“We should discuss the problem from the point of view of our criminal law and consider the possibility of establishing an international body to examine such cases,” the Interfax reported citing Medvedev.
Russia has sent warships to the Gulf of Aden as part of an international effort to curb Somali piracy.
Medvedev’s remarks underlined the legal difficulties in handing the suspected pirates, who are captured, to any of the Gulf of Aden littoral states for trial, the report said.
