Bangalore, Aug 30 (IANS) Claude Smadja retired from the Infosys Technologies Ltd board as an independent director, the IT bellwether said Monday.

‘Smadja retired Aug 30 in accordance with the retirement policy for the board of directors after nine years of service,’ Infosys said in a statement here.

Smadja is president of Smadja & Associates Inc., a strategic advisory firm he founded in 2001 after serving the World Economic Forum as its managing director for five years from 1996.

‘We will miss his wonderful contributions. His vast knowledge of macro-economics, corporate governance, his simple demeanour and courtesy made Smadja a heavy weight in board discussions and a favourite among its members,’ Infosys chairman and chief mentor N.R. Narayana Murthy said.

Noting that it was a privilege to serve the company, Smadja said Infosys had all it took to continue from strength to strength in the increasingly complex global environment.

‘Looking back at these nine years, I feel it has been a privilege to serve on the Infosys’ board and to be part of a fast growing and dynamic enterprise,’ Smadja recalled.
