Jaipur, May 5 (Inditop) When Bundi district of Rajasthan votes Thursday, election officials will share all polling-related details among themselves through SMSes and with people through website updates.

This is being tried out perhaps for the first time in India, election officials said here Tuesday.

A control cell at Bundi district headquarters, about 180 km from here, has been set up to ensure speedy exchange of information.

All 801 polling centres in the district, which comes under the Kota parliamentary constituency, will send and receive latest information about the percentage of polling five times a day, thanks to the control cell.

“This sophisticated communication facility would be used for the first time under the guidance of District Election Officer Ashutosh A.T. Pednekar. Under this service, the control cell would get the latest information from every polling both,” Anil Bhal, who heads the control cell, said in a statement.

“All the booth level officers (BLO) have been provided the facility of SMS,” he said.

The new system will save time in information dissemination. Earlier, it used to take two hours for the zonal magistrates to collect information from each polling centre of their zones.

Bhal said that messages would be downloaded through the National Informatics Centre (NIC) server on the control room’s computer directly. After collecting the information of the polling percentage, data would be uploaded on the website of the Election Commission and the State Election Department.

Bhal said the control cell has six computers and 12 telephones for this exercise.
