Ottawa, May 8 (Inditop) Canada has registered the first death from swine flu with an elderly woman under treatment for A/H1N1 infection dying in Alberta province Thursday.

It was not known if the woman had other underlying conditions, but she did have the virus at the time she died, the CBC TV reported, without providing any sources.

The news has not been confirmed by health officials.

The total of Canada’s confirmed swine flu cases now stands at 214, the Public Health Agency of Canada said in its latest update Thursday. Nearly all cases have been mild.
