Kolkata, May 9 (Inditop) Softening his stand on not supporting the Congress in government formation after the Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat Saturday said his party will take a decision on the matter after the elections.
“Let the elections be over first. Let the results come. After that we will see,” Karat told reporters here. He was asked to react to Congress overtures for Left support after the polls.
Karat had so far maintained that his party will not lend support to the Congress to form a government and instead gave the call for cobbling up a non-Congress non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition rule in New Delhi by defeating the two largest parties in the country.
However, Karat’s party colleague and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had said earlier that the issue was “open” and a decision will be taken based on the poll results.
Karat is in the city to campaign for Left Front candidates in the final phase of Lok Sabha elections May 13 when 11 constituencies in the state will vote.
Results of the five-phase elections will be declared May 16.
