Islamabad, Nov 1 (IANS) Slain Pakistani Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud’s brother was killed in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region, a media report said Monday.
Yaqoob Mehsud, brother of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader who was killed in a US drone attack last year, was shot dead by unidentified militants in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan, Xinhua reported quoting Pakistan’s Express TV channel.
Residents have identified the dead body as of Yaqoob. Official sources have confirmed the assassination but not his identification as Mehsud’s brother yet.
Baitullah was killed in August 2009 along with his wife and a bodyguard in an anti-insurgency operation carried out by the US drone in the troubled region bordering Afghanistan. He was succeeded by Hakimullah Mehsud who is still leading the insurgency in the area.
