Chennai, Nov 2 (IANS) Ford Motor Company is planning to ship out its new compact car Figo to 48 more countries from its plant near here, a top company official said Tuesday.

‘Soon we will be shipping out Figo to new markets like North Africa, South America, UAE, Mexico. We started Figo exports to South Africa and recently added Nepal to our export destination,’ Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India, told reporters here.

According to him, the demand for Figo from South Africa has increased and the company will be shipping out another 2,000 units before this year-end.

‘Earlier we thought we will be exporting 5,000 units to South Africa,’ he said.

In the domestic market, he said Figo continues to be in the top 10 selling compact car models for six months in a row.

Asked for how long Ford India could depend on one model to give it volumes, Boneham said: ‘We will be launching eight new models by 2015. No other car manufacturer is planning anything like that.’
