New Delhi, May 16 (Inditop) Admitting that the Congress party was in a position to form the next government, Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary A.B. Bardhan Saturday said that they would, like always, sit in opposition and fight for poor people’s causes.
“The Congress has won and right now it is in a position to form the government. Let it form the government. Why should they need our support now? We have all our lives been in opposition and we will be in opposition,” Bardhan told reporters here.
Saying they would review the poll results, he said: “I am glad some of our tall leaders have been elected. (But) we will review the results.”
“We will fight outside for poor people’s issues,” Bardhan said. The party will have a review meeting Sunday, he added.
The Left Front, of which the CPI is an important part, had withdrawn support from the Congress-led coalition government at the centre last year.
