New Delhi, May 16 (Inditop) Drummers had a field day in the capital Saturday as the Congress party emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha polls and drumbeats were heard outside the party’s office for hours. They knew it would be a day of big money.
Rajyapal, a drummer, said he had anxiously been awaiting the election results and was praying that the Congress won. The 38-year-old drummer had been booked by a Congress worker for Saturday on May 10 itself.
“A member from the Congress party approached us on May 10 and booked us for May 16. We were just hoping that Congress wins so that we can beat drums and earn money,” Rajyapal told Inditop.
“We have been beating drums since 2 p.m. We just hope that we get the remuneration that was promised,” he added.
Most of the drummers or dholwallahs look forward to the election results, hoping that victorious parties will hire them for celebrations and their fortunes will see an upswing.
But not everyone is as lucky as Rajyapal.
“We were approached by a member of a political party but he never returned. Our hopes of earning some good money were dashed,” said Babli, a 23-year-old dholwala.
Deepak and Vinod are drummers from Rajasthan. Grinning with happiness they have been playing outside the Congress party office at 24, Akbar road.
“We went to the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) headquarters at first but the atmosphere there was dull and we understood that we won’t be needed there. So we came to the Congress headquarters,” Deepak told Inditop.
