Gandhinagar, Dec 29 (IANS) The Gujarat High Court Wednesday pulled up the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation for spending money on festivals and carnivals but failing to provide basic amenities to the people.
The court slammed the civic agency while hearing a case related to the delay in constructing an approach road to a Christian graveyard.
‘You have money to spend on Kankaria Carnival (held annually near a lake in Ahmedabad) but don’t have money for the approach road for graveyard,’ a division bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and Justice K.M. Thaker asked of counsel for the civic body.
‘Please construct the road,’ the court said.
The court noted that despite its order in January, the corporation failed to furnish a satisfactory explanation for its inaction.
The court was hearing a petition filed by the All India Christian Council. The next hearing is slated for Feb 2, 2011.
