Lucknow, Dec 30 (IANS) Three months after an 11-year-old girl was raped and sodomised following which she died at her home in Kanpur, the Uttar Pradesh Police has succeeded in identifying the culprit – the son of the owner of the school where she studied.

‘The forensic report submitted to the CID today (Thursday) has confirmed a DNA match of the victim’s swabs with that of Piyush Verma, the 27-year-old son of Chattrapal Verma, the founder-owner of the Bharti Gyansthali school,’ an official spokesman told IANS late Thursday night.

The girl died Sep 27, shortly after the crime committed on the school campus itself. When she was found, the school authorities put the profusely bleeding girl on a rickshaw that dropped her just outside her home.

She lay unconscious until her mother returned home from her place of work and rushed her daughter to a hospital.

While the local police gave the school owner and his son a clean chit, mounting media and public pressure compelled their arrest after more than two weeks.
