Zirakpur (Punjab), Jan 3 (IANS) Masked men Monday held up a liquor vend cashier walking to the bank here in Punjab and shot him before fleeing with about Rs.5 lakh, police said. The cashier died in hospital.
Mahavir Singla, 35, was shot when he resisted the robbers.
Singla was walking to a bank to deposit the cash collection of three days. He was suddenly attacked by two young men wearing monkey caps, Zirakpur station house officer Yogi Raj told reporters.
‘Singla tried to run away. But one of the assailants fired at him. The bullet hit him near the ear drum. The killers escaped on their motorcycle that had no registration number with the bag full of money.
Singla was taken to a government hospital in Chandigarh but succumbed to the injuries. Zirakpur town is around 10 km away from Chandigarh.
