New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS) Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna will be visiting Afghanistan on a two-day trip from Jan 8.

A press release by the external affairs ministry said Krishna will be travelling to Afghanistan Jan 8-9 at the invitation of Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmay Rassoul.

‘The visit is part of the regular high level consultations between the two governments and is an expression of the friendship and understanding that exists between India and Afghanistan,’ it said.

The press note reiterated that India which is a ‘neighbour’ and ‘strategic partner’ stands ‘steadfast with the government and people of Afghanistan in their efforts to build a strong, peaceful, democratic, pluralistic and prosperous Afghanistan’.
