Kolkata, Jan 31 (IANS) Kolkata-based Phillips Carbon Black (PCBL) wil launch work on its 55,000 metric tonnes plant in Vietnam in March this year, RPG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka said Monday.

RPG Group company PCBL, the largest producer of carbon black in India, is currently ranked eighth globally.

‘We got all clearances for setting up the plant in Ba Ria Vung Tau province in Vietnam. Vietnam is an emerging market for carbon black. The plant will be the first of its kind in the country,’ Goenka told reporters here.

‘The total demand for carbon black in Vietnam will be about one lakh tonnes annually,’ he added.

During the quarter ending December 2010, the PCBL had a total installed capacity of 360,000 MT.

Goenka said the total capacity will be ramped up to 610,000 MT following investment of about Rs.800 crore in two years.

The company was set to further expand its carbon black capacity at Mundra in Gujarat by adding another 50,000 MT, he said, adding that it has already received environmental clearance.

PCBL’s net sales during the third quarter rose to Rs.432 crore, against Rs.347 crore in the same period last year, registering a growth of 24.5 percent in value terms.
