New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS) Defence and paramilitary personnel who suffer 100 percent disability while fighting Maoists will get a one-time compensation of Rs.9 lakh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Monday.

‘In recognition of the sacrifices made by central paramilitary forces engaged in tackling Left wing extremism, a lump sum ex-gratia compensation of Rs.9 lakh for 100 percent disability will now be granted to personnel of the defence and paramilitary forces, who are discharged from service on medical grounds on account of disability attributable to or aggravated in government service,’ Mukherjee said in his budget for 2011-12.

‘For personnel with disability ranging from 20 to 99 percent, a proportionate amount would be given,’ he added.
