Chennai/New Delhi, March 1 (IANS) Two-wheeler companies continued their buoyant sales in February with Hero Honda Motors, TVS Motor and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India logging good growth for the month as compared to the corresponding period of 2010.

Hero Honda Motors Tuesday reported an increase of more than 23 percent in its February sales, which stood at 472,055 units against 382,096 units in the corresponding month last year.

‘Our performance throughout this fiscal has been very consistent and the strong February numbers are a positive indication for the growth to continue,’ the company’s senior vice president for marketing and sales Anil Dua said.

February was also the 10th consecutive month when the company sold over 4 lakh units.

The company further said that its cumulative sales in the current fiscal year so far grew by almost 17 percent and stood at 48,86,592 units over last year’s performance of 41,85,492 units.

On the company’s scooter business, Dua said that its Pleasure brand continues to grow, clocking sales of 30,000 units a month.

The Chennai-based TVS Motor Company logged 24 percent sales growth last month, selling a total of 1,77,412 units (1,73,200 two-wheelers, 4,212 three-wheelers) as against 1,42,676 units (140,544 two-wheelers, 2,132 three-wheelers) in February 2010.

Within the two-wheeler segment, TVS Motor sold 40,335 scooters, 71,462 motorcycles and 61,403 mopeds last month.

In February 2010, the company had sold 27,017 scooters, 63,394 motorcycles and 50,133 mopeds.

The company also shipped out 24,036 two- and three-wheelers in February.

The company’s cumulative sales for April 2010 to February 2011 stood at 1,855,460 units.

On the other hand Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India reported a total sales of 1,45,819 units (65,890 motorcycles, 79,929 scooters).

The company claimed a market share of 12 percent this fiscal in the just over one million unit industry.
